‘Why Maui Snared the Sun,’ nominee for best animation at Guam film festival

The festival aims to unify, celebrate, and showcase international cinema with an abundance of creative talent and worldwide recognition emerging from Asia and the Western Pacific.

“Why Maui Snared the Sun,” the first animated film developed by Pacific Resources for Education and Learning’s  E Ho‘omau! program, chronicles one of the early adventures of the famous Polynesian demigod:

The festival will screen at the Micronesia Mall Stadium Theatres on Sept. 30 to Oct. 1. “Why Maui Snared the Sun” will be shown on Saturday, October 1, at 10 a.m. For tickets, schedules, and general information on the film festival, visit the website at www.guamfilmfestival.org.

The E Ho‘omau! project is funded by the Native Hawaiian Education Act. The program supplements 4th grade science and literacy curriculum through an engaging cultural context based on three classic Hawaiian stories: “Why Maui Snared the Sun,” “Menehune and the Birds,” and “Pele Searches for a Home.”
