Woman denies immigration document fraud charge

U.S. District Court for the NMI Designated Judge David A. Wiseman on Friday ordered the release of Urumelog on her personal recognizance, with conditions to follow.

The prosecution and the defense had no objections to the U.S. Probation Office’s recommendation that Urumelog be released on personal recognizance.

Wiseman scheduled Urumelog ‘s jury trial for Dec. 5, 2011.

Urumelog was assisted by a Carolinian translator.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Beverly R. McCallum is prosecuting the case while court-appointed defense attorney Mark Hanson is representing Urumelog.

Also present during Urumelog’s initial appearance and bail hearing was U.S. Homeland Security Investigations special agent Donald Duff.

Urumelog was taken into custody on Oct. 13, 2011 based on arrest order issued by U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona.

A grand jury indicted Urumelog last month.

On or about July 6, 2009, Urumelog gave a false statement on her U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Form I-130 which is a petition for alien relative, the indictment stated.

It added that Urumelog gave a negative declaration to the application form, if the defendant had ever petitioned Abdullah Al Mamun “or another alien.”

Urumelog’s declaration was material to the determination by USCIS of Abdullah Al Mamun’s application for lawful permanent resident status, the indictment stated.

On or about Jan. 22, 2003, Urumelog filled a Form I-130 petition for alien relative “for then-husband Md. Jahangir Alam.”
