Hard Rock Café Runway Fashion Show contestants join beach cleanup

Hard Rock Café operations manager Rey Perez said participants  from six to 18 years old joined the team along with representatives from the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance, Teen Talk, and Hard Rock Café Saipan group, and photographers who are joining the photography contest on Sept.  23.

Perez said  over 80 individuals including the fashion show participants and their parents joined the cleanup which started at 7 a.m. and finished at around 9 a.m.

The group proceeded to Hard Rock Café after the cleanup.

“MINA showed a short power point presentation to the kids about the environment and the importance of keeping the environment clean and green,” Perez said.

The short presentation raised the environmental awareness of the participants, he added.

“The presentation was very appropriate after the kids’ hands on experience in picking up trash and cleaning the beach,” Perez said.

On Saturday night, Perez said the Runway Fashion Show contestants had a rehearsal for the main show which will be at Hard Rock Café on Sept. 23.

There are three  categories — 6 years old and below, 7-11years old, and 18 years old and below.

Event coordinator James Sison said the contestants are already very excited to display their fun funky rock and roll style.

The Rock the Junk Fashion Show is designed to promote an eco-friendly environment, raise teen/kids awareness and give the youth more fun activities to do.

Sponsors for the event are iFASHION Salon, Shawarma, Joeten Sususpe, IT&E, Konflict Ali, Hafa Adai Beach Hotel, Rainbow, National Car Rental & Alamo, Serenity Day Spa and Canon.
