USPS officials prepare for Holidays

Most of the 6,000 pieces of mail that arrived on island are packages, he said.

As the Christmas season approaches, this figure is expected to double, Tudela added.

Last week, USPS officials from Honolulu, Guam, the Freely Associated States and their suppliers gathered for their Christmas operations meeting at the Hyatt in Garapan.

Tudela said the meeting discussed current  lapses in the operation so they can correct them.

“We’d make sure that mail processing is timely and the mail is delivered timely,” he added.

USPS acting district manager in Honolulu Frank Santos talked about the city’s network transportation.

Randall Sobol, operations analyst, Global Business USPS, Honolulu, provided operation updates while Chris Siouris, postal inspector/program manager, Global Security & Investigations in San Francisco, discussed global mail security.

Tudela said they will appoint a coordinator who will ensure that mail is covered and will not get wet during delivery.

Ratnesh Singh, Global Postal Affairs, United/Continental Airlines in San Francisco; Brian Wessling, director, airport operations, United/Continental on Guam; Mel Malloe, cargo manager of United/Continental, Pohnpei; and Art Day, regional manager of United/Continental in Pohnpei, talked about their plans for  the holidays.

During the meeting, Amy Marshall was sworn in as the new postmaster of Saipan.

Tudela said they endorsed  Marshall’s plan to add 300 post office boxes on island.

Also participating in the meeting were Matson Navigation Honolulu senior vice president for the Pacific Vic Angoco; Len Isotoff, general manager of Matson Navigation on Guam; Asia Pacific Airlines on Guam vice president and general manager Robert Walker; POI Aviation on Saipan manager Leo Duenas; USG LLC Saipan general manager Ryan Wessling; Freedom Air Saipan general manager Joaquin Flores; Federated States of Micronesia Postmaster Ginger P. Mida; Yap Postmaster Terry Thinom; Palau Postmaster Ponce Materne; and Marshall Islands Postmaster Heran Bellu.
