Summer reading grand finale on Aug. 19

Joeten-Kiyu library executive director John Gonzales said the program has been a tremendous success, thanks to the many sponsors, youth and children who participated.

Gonzales said the highlight of this year’s program is the weekly themes that drive the presentations and workshops.

Joeten-Kiyu Public Library and its partner, NMI Humanities Council, aim to promote lifelong literacy through the program, he added.

“The grand finale on Aug. 19 will start at 10 a.m. and sponsors will be recognized and students, along with their parents and/or guardians will be honored with prizes donated by sponsors and certificates,” Gonzales said.

Throughout July, public library staffers hosted different activities including movie nights on Wednesdays, Humanities Mini-Camp on Thursdays which discussed history/archaeology, literature and community art, and lectures conducted  by special guests representing the Division of Environmental Quality, the Department of Public Health, the Division of Fish and Wildlife, and others.

More library activities are in store for the community this month in addition to the regular movie nights, homework center, Read-Aloud programs every Saturday and the Information Technology Center computer classes.
