According to the Guam Visitors Bureau, the Japanese website for TripAdvisor recently announced “The Best 20 Beaches in Japan & Overseas,” with Ypao Beach, Coco Palm Garden Beach and Ritidian Point making the list.
TripAdvisor is the world’s largest travel site that assists customers in gathering travel information, posting reviews and opinions of travel-related content and engaging in interactive travel forums.
Ypao Beach ranked second in the overseas category, after finishing seventh in “The Best Places You Have Visited” in 2010, a GVB press release states.
Ypao Beach, located in Tumon between Hilton Guam Resort & Spa and the Pacific Islands Club, is “known internationally for its clear blue water, coral reefs, and a natural white sand beach,” GVB says. As a protected marine reserve, activities such as motorboats, jet skiing and public fishing are prohibited.
Governor Joseph Flores Memorial Park or Ypao Beach Park, located in front of the Ypao Beach is the site of the annual Guam Ko’ko Road Race and Guam Micronesia Fair, set for the month of October. Various concerts and other events also take place there.
GVB states it will continue its mission to efficiently and effectively promote and develop Guam as a safe and satisfying destination for visitors and to derive maximum benefits for the people of Guam.
“As far as we know, this is the first time Guam has made the list. It is an honor to receive this recognition from our Japanese visitors,” said GVB general manger Joann Camacho. “This shows how important it is that we keep our beaches clean and maintained. GVB has direct oversight in the maintenance of beaches in Hagåtña and Tumon, and we continue to work with Department of Parks and Recreation, Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association, the Islandwide Beautification Task Force, village mayors, and other members of the community to keep our island clean,” she added.
