Manuel Santos arrested for domestic violence

Superior Court Judge Kenneth L. Govendo imposed a $2,500 bail on Santos who is being held on charges of disturbing the peace, assault and battery, and interfering with a domestic violence report.

He was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after his initial appearance and bail hearing yesterday morning.

Assistant Attorney General Shelli Neal represented the government.

Govendo will hear today the motion to modify Santos’ bail filed by Assistant Public Defender Matthey Meyer, the defendant’s counsel.

Meyer is asking the court to allow Santos to post $250 or 10 percent of the bail order, and to be released to his brother as third party custodian.

Detective Peter Aldan stated in his affidavit that the incident occurred on Tuesday, between 8 and 11 p.m., at the defendant’s residence in Gagu Loop in Kagman.

Prior to the incident, the victim told police she and her husband, the defendant, left a family gathering and went home.

The victim said her husband consumed eight cans of beer.

On their way home, Santos accused his wife of having an affair, and an argument ensued.

Upon arriving home, the victim told her husband that she was leaving him.

Santos got angry and started breaking things inside the living room.

The victim took the house phone and was calling 911 when Santos grabbed the phone and broke it.

Police said Santos punched a hole on the restroom and bedroom doors and prevented his wife from taking her clothes from the cabinet by pushing her away.

The victim walked out of their residence together with her children and called for police assistance through her mobile phone.
