Before he left for Fairbanks, Alaska on Friday, Fitial issued certifications for the annual salaries in excess of $50,000.
Assistant AG Gilbert J. Birnbrich will get $70,000 a year; Assistant AG Eileen E. Wisor, $59,000; Assistant AG Shelli L. Neal $69,000; Assistant AG Peter B. Prestley, $60,000; Assistant AG Meredith Callan, $52,000 and Assistant AG Tiberius Mocanu, $52,000.
Assistant Public Defenders Matt Meyer and Richard Miller will each get $60,000 a year.
Department of Public Health physician Dr. Lingie Chiu’s annual pay is $130,000.
As doctors and other critical employees were leaving the islands in 2007, Fitial signed Public Law 15-81 to raise the annual pay of government doctors, attorneys, engineers, certified public accountants and architects.
The governor is required to certify the pay hikes to the Legislature and the Civil Service Commission.
Two government employees who requested anonymity said the over-the-cap salaries “hurt” them and other members of the community who are trying so hard to live within their 64-hour work pay period and their delayed paychecks.
