“If we have money I’d do it but with a limited budget it’s not necessary,” he said.
He said his office can just refer those are seeking employment to employers.
Moreover, a job fair on Tinian will not draw many people, he added.
Dela Cruz said unemployed residents are already being referred to Tinian Dynasty, the biggest private sector employer on island.
Tinian Dynasty, he added, has been “gracious and supportive and is hiring local people.”
Tinian Dynasty staffers visit schools and speak to graduating high school students to remind them that they can apply at the hotel, Dela Cruz said.
For his part, Rota Mayor Melchor A. Mendiola said he will coordinate with the Department of Labor for a possible job fair on their island.
“We try to find more employment opportunities for the people of Rota,” he added.
He said they will also conduct a survey among students to find out what their fields of interest are and what they plan to do after high school.
Early this month, the Department of Labor hosted a job fair on Saipan that was attended by 30 employers, including three government agencies.
The event drew hundreds of local applicants seeking jobs.
