NMI Bar: We don’t report to Senate

In an interview on Friday, attorney Timothy Bellas said they don’t tell complainants of what is going on during an investigation.

Whenever they talk to the complainant, it’s only for the purpose of gathering further information, he added.

Bellas said he  already told the senators that the matter is “proceeding and that they will get notification of it when the process is completed.”

Bellas said the CNMI Bar can recommend no further action or refer its findings to the Superior Court for prosecution.

Once their investigator completes his job, the former judge added, he will submit a report to the disciplinary committee whose members will then vote on what their next step should be.

Bellas did not disclose the investigator’s identity.

Senate Executive Appointments and Government Investigation Committee Chairman  Frank Q. Cruz, R-Tinian, earlier said they were waiting for the NMI Bar’s response to the panel’s inquiry about the result of the investigation into Buckingham’s involvement in the controversial ARRA sole-source contract and the hosting of a meet and greet event for then-delegate candidate an now Judge Joseph N. Camacho.
