Ana S.N. Flores, 74, presented her concerns to the Mayors Council during a special meeting Wednesday morning by comparing casino gambling to abortion.
“Fifty-three million real babies are murdered before they’re born because it was allowed by law,” she said, in response to Mayors Council Executive Director Angel Sablan’s statement that casino gambling is allowed by law.
“Gambling is the worst addiction in the world. It’s worse than sex, adultery; worse than alcohol. Worse than chocolate, starvation, you name it. It’s the worst thing and is the hardest thing to get out of — but it’s the easiest to get into,” she said.
She also criticized non-profit group Guma Mami for agreeing to be the beneficiary of this year’s Liberation Day casino.
Yigo Mayor Bob Lizama said he appreciated Flores’ presentation but also said she shouldn’t compare gambling to abortion.
He also said the Mayors Council remains firm on its decision to have the casino and will stand by it, especially since the proceeds will benefit the people of Guam.
Umatac Mayor Dean Sanchez, meanwhile, calmly thanked Flores for bringing forth the issue.
“For now, however, I remain neutral,” said Sanchez.
