SHEFA board approves 44 applications

During Thursday’s meeting, he said the board approved 44 applications for the fall 2011 academic term.

The applications were received from Oct. 5 to Nov. 4, 2011.

Hofschneider said they need $70,500 for the 44 recipients.

The board also separately approved six other eligible applications.

SHEFA recommended the disbursement of $12,900 for these six eligible applicants.

Hofschneider reported to the board that SHEFA should have the final list of eligible applicants for fall 2011 by no later than Dec. 1, 2011.

He said he will continue to coordinate with the head of the committee on awards to review and decide on the final list.

This list will include 14 eligible applicants enrolled in the Framingham State University master’s program, some undergraduates and Northern Marianas Trade Institute students, Hofschneider said.

As of yesterday, Hofschneider said they had not received any update from the Department of Finance regarding the cash available for SHEFA scholars.

Since Oct. 17, SHEFA has been  waiting for the release of checks for 16 graduate students amounting to $75,200.

The checks for two undergraduates whose names were misspelled by the Department of Finance have yet to be released, too.

These checks are for the amount of $4,000.

The remaining total amount pending disbursement for spring 2011 is $15,000, Hofschneider said.

SHEFA will continue to follow up with the Department of Finance regarding the release of 14 checks for the spring 2011 term.
