The Polynesian Leaders Group is made up of French Polynesia, Niue, Cook Islands, Tuvalu, Tonga, Tokelau, American Samoa and Samoa, and its aim is to help its members develop economic prosperity and uphold democratic values.
The memorandum of understanding signed at the meeting highlighted the importance of ensuring the region’s cultures and traditions are taken into account when putting development in place.
The decision came after a meeting of the leaders in Samoa’s capital Apia.
