The absence of Pete Lizama, Angelo Fernando, or Darwin Barbo didn’t bother PIC, who shut down five of GPPC’s attempts 2:30 into the extra period.
Even Randy Mungcal — who had a game-high 43 points — couldn’t muster the speed of Ponce Rasa and Ziddy Johanes on Sunday night.
Mungcal eked out five of GPPC’s 10 points in OT, going 2-for-2 in free throws and shooting a three-pointer.
The first three critical turnovers favored PIC, handing Mina a chance for two baskets. Rasa shot three of his four free throw attempts, while Jessie Mina and Johanes scored five points in OT.
Center Zach Diaz didn’t disappoint with 16 rebounds and 10 points, alongside Jessie’s 12 rebounds, five assists, and one steal. Teammate James Abuy garnered 20 points.
Diaz had earlier missed a hook shot after Rasa’s failed jumper in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter, resulting in OT.
Early in the first period, Mungcal delivered 12 points to leave PIC behind, 27-24.
14 points from JR and Jessie Mina and six from Rasa catapulted PIC to a two-point lead 10 minutes later, with GPPC retaking the lead in the third quarter.
PIC improved to five wins and two losses while GPPC downgraded to six losses with one win.
Mungcal posted 10 steals, giving PIC a run for the ball and scored six rebounds with three assists. Aside from him, only Alex Ocampo and Jerry Tolentino squeezed in baskets during OT.
