Philippine overseas absentee voting registration begins

Consul General Medardo Macaraig said they took Pedrano’s photo, fingerprints and other biometric information.

The registration/certification  ends on Oct. 31, 2012.

For the May 2010 national elections, there were 7,169 registered absentee voters in the Northern Marianas. Of this number, 3,341 cast their ballots for a 46.6 percent voter turnout.

Macaraig said the consulate on Saipan registered the second highest number of absentee voters among Philippine consulates in the U.S., next to Los Angeles.

Mobile registration will be conducted for Filipinos in Tinian and Rota during the next consular service scheduled in the first quarter of 2012, he added.

The registration/certification of qualified Filipino overseas absentee voters at the Saipan consulate will continue during office hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. except holidays and weekends.

Qualified Filipino voters can also register  on Nov. 19,  Saturday, and Dec. 18, Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.,  as part of the consulate’s One-Saturday-or-Sunday-A-Month services.

Macaraig encouraged all qualified Filipino voters in the CNMI to register and exercise their right to vote. For more information, call 234-1848, 234-1850 or  fax 234-1849.
