PSS relocates, will save $250K

“All offices have moved to our new location with the exception of finance which is scheduled for Friday,” she reported to the Board of Education on Thursday.

PSS-central used to be a tenant of the Retirement Fund building on Capital Hill.

Sablan said the renovation of MHS Building F was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the school system’s CIP staff and  financial consultant.

PSS is still working on the renovation of the BOE office and conference room at MHS, she added.

A fence will be constructed to serve as a boundary between the PSS central office and the school campus, she added.

Sablan also reported that there were 30 college students who participated in the summer enrichment program which hosted Outdoor Science for students in grades 5 and 6; Intensified Algebra and Language Arts for students in grade 8; Chamorro and Carolinian Language Heritage Studies for elementary school students; Reading for primary grades; Culinary Arts, Health Career and Credit Recovery for students in secondary schools.

She said the alternate education program is set to open this school year with four highly qualified teachers and counselor in content areas.

She said PSS also conducted staff development for support staff and professional development for teachers, counselors, librarians and school administrators on Saipan, Rota and Tinian.

Moreover, PSS completed its work on the PEER Review technical assistance with Dr. Ellen Forte regarding the PSS Standards and Assessment Accountability Plan, Sablan added.

She said the project mentor institute was very successful and more teachers participated in the mentoring program.
