NMI marks Veterans Day today

The ceremony, dubbed “11.11.11,” will start at the 11th hour, the 11th day of the 11th month.

Today’s keynote speaker is Capt. John K. Russ, commander of Submarine Squadron Fifteen, Joint Region Marianas.

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial will give the welcoming remarks, while Chuck Sayon, who is also the master of ceremonies, will lead the recognition of veterans.

Fitial and Russ will lead the laying of the wreath and will be joined by other veterans and servicemembers.

At 11:30 a.m. a fly-by is scheduled by a B-52 aircraft from the 23rd Expeditionary Bomb Squadron, 36th Wing, Anderson Air Force Base on Guam.

U.S. Chief Ranger Bryan Piercy of American Memorial Park will give the closing remarks.

The Pacific Winds Concert Band will perform the pre-ceremonial music, the national anthem and Taps. The Saipan Southern High School JROTC Color Guards and Manta Ray Band will post and retire the Colors.
