Butch triumphs again

The veteran biker timed in at 47 minutes and 58 seconds to top the men’s division of the mountain bike-full course category during the Saipan Cycling Association’s MTB and Road Race II last Sunday.

The full course, which starts and ends at Pau Pau Beach, cruises through Cow Town and the Banzai, Autobahn, and Kimikaze trails.

Lewie Tenorio trailed Sublemente at 49:05 and was seconds ahead of third ranked Antonee Aguilar (49:51).

Butch fell behind Tenorio, Aguilar, and Mark Isip at the start but recovered his lead in the Cow Town area. Sublemente passed by Aguilar first and reached Tenorio at the Autobahn trail.

Mieko Carey — also in the full course — arrived after Aguilar and was the first female to finish with 52 minutes and 38 seconds. Susan Marchitti (1:10:26) came in second place.

In the road bike category, Willy Barbo ruled the men’s division at one hour, 21 minutes, and five seconds. Second ranked Nap Dizon (1:21:07) came two seconds later, followed by Harold Balana (1:23:28). Gary Bandoja and Stuart Smith reached the men’s top five at 1:24:45 and 1:29:12, respectively.

Lone road biker Juanita Fajardo completed the course in two hours, 11 minutes, and five seconds.

Teen cyclist Erico Castro dominated the mountain bike-short course category with 41:19. Arnel Cruz (41:45) won second place and Ronald Lanuza (41:51) won third.

Regina Sebial topped the women’s division with 52 minutes and 48 seconds, beating Joan Salazar (57:07) and Ester Ada (57:41).

Erwin Calage was the mountain bike-beginners category’s champion with 35 minutes and 20 seconds. Not far behind, Biteregor Agbon timed in at 35:32. Ariel Lansangan claimed third place with 37:14.

Claire Lanuza posted 46 minutes and 47 seconds in the women’s division.

Despite a mud-filled morning, a total of 74 bikers joined the race.
