The Neighborhood Watch Task Force block captain in Dandan, Frank Camacho, said they secured $50,000 for the project.
The project that started last month includes the repair of the basketball court, Camacho said.
The money came from the federal Community Development Block Grant administered by the Northern Marianas Housing Corp.
“The grant is $50,000 and the contract amount is less than that but we are reserving some of the funds to get playground equipment for the children’s park,” he said.
Camacho said they are also planning to build a social hall at the park.
The renovation project is expected to be completed in October.
Nunu Sanchez, one of the project’s prime movers, said the grant was approved last year.
He said the park was no longer being used because all the facilities had been vandalized.
Sanchez is hoping that community members will this time help maintain and protect the park from littering and vandals.
