The camp, which started on Monday and will end on Friday, is for dependents and extended family members of an Army Reservist.
Tara Dixon of the Army Reserve Enrichment Camp said 75 participants are children of Army Reservists.
Dixon said this is the third summer for the camp but the first time that Child and Youth School Services has partnered with Operation Military Kids to “provide age appropriate programming specifically for geographically dispersed military youth who do not have access to some resources.”
“This camp is intended to provide meaningful opportunities for interaction and activities that translate into resilient military youth. At this camp youth will have gained leadership and team building skills,” Dixon said.
Campers have the opportunity to meet other Army Reserve youth.
“They gain a sense of self-confidence while learning life skills and of course having fun,” Dixon said.
The camp activities include swimming lessons, go-karts, kayaking, snorkeling, volleyball, mountain biking, movie making, horseback riding, ocean safety, golf, field trips, arts and crafts, and more.
Dixon said today is “Military Day” and campers will have the chance to reflect on why they are participating in the Army Reserve Enrichment Camp.
“The youth will have the chance to work with soldiers and do a variety of fun activities including face painting, obstacle courses, MRE or ‘Meal, Ready-to-Eat’ tasting, kid friendly boot camp and learn Army songs as well as many other opportunities,” Dixon said.
Military Day activities will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
