Former CNMI Military and Veterans Affairs Executive Director Ruth Coleman who is now the administrative specialist for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Health Administration said she still see veterans regarding health issues at her new office every day.
“We still have a lot of veterans who have not yet registered with the Veterans Affairs healthcare program for reasons that we don’t know,” Coleman said.
She said about 1,500 veterans have already enrolled.
“We know there are still a lot of them out there but we cannot extend the benefits if they will not come to us,” she said.
“If you know of a veteran who has not yet registered with the VA healthcare program, please reach out to them and help them register. It is the least you can do for someone who has served our nation,” Coleman said.
The VA healthcare benefits for enrolled veterans include preventive outpatient and inpatient services .
“I am inviting all the veterans to be with us on July 28 and 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Your issues will be addressed by Tina San Agustin, certified veterans service representative from Veterans Affairs in Honolulu, Hawaii, who is here in the CNMI,” Coleman said.
San Agustin was scheduled to visit Rota yesterday. She will be on Tinian today and tomorrow.
Veterans are urged to visit the Veterans Affairs office on Capitol Hill, Bldg. 1364 or call 664-2650 for more information.
