Senate panel conducts hearing for Fund, licensing board nominees

Current board members, administration officials and family members expressed their support for the reappointment of  Francisco P. Rosario to the Fund board of Trustees and Dr. Ahmad Al-Alou to the licensing board during separate hearings in the Senate chamber.

Sen. Francisco Q. Cruz, R-Tinian and the committee chairman, said nobody opposed any of the nominations.

He said the committee was very impressed with the résumés of the nominees.

Fund board chairman Sixto Igisomar, vice chairman Jerry Crisostimo and member Marian Tudela expressed confidence in Rosario’s capabilities while Thomas J. Camacho, the governor’s special assistant for disability policy and programs, lauded  Al-Alou’s credentials.

Cruz said his committee has some concerns about the CNMI’s hiring of foreign doctors and asked Al-Alou to help address them.

He said they  asked Rosario to be more “aggressive” in addressing Retirement Fund issues.

The Fund’s main problem is the government’s inability to pay employer contributions on time.

Yesterday, the Senate unanimously confirmed the nominations of Rosario, Al-Alou and former Sen. Diego M. Songao who will serve on the Commonwealth Development Authority board of directors representing Rota.
