James Hegarty Santiago Passi Camacho was this year’s valedictorian as well as recipient of the Board of Education Award.
Jan Kimberly Tecson Alcantara, the class’s salutatorian, was presented with the Commissioner’s Award.
The Governor’s Award went to Mark San Juan while the Principal’s Award was received by Coquina Leah Teregeyo.
The top 10 students were Fumi Nimura, Kaelani Marie Demapan, Joseph Jang, Donovan Jake Tudela, Li Ra Park, Ann Mariel Flores, Dahee Kim, So Jung Song, Jan Kimberly Alcantara, and James Passi Camacho.
Principal Jesse M. Tudela gave his welcoming remarks followed by congratulatory remarks given by Board of Education Chairwoman Marylou S. Ada and Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan.
Marianas High School principal Craig Garrison, former SSHS principal, was invited to be a guest speaker.
The keynote address was presented by attorney Robert T. Torres.
He took the class’s graduation theme into consideration: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”
Torres had a creative approach to keep the students’ interest; he tied in proverbs and words of wisdom from Korean, Filipino, Refaluwasch, and Chamorro cultures.
The graduates chose the song “Wherever I Go” by Miley Cyrus to be their senior song.
Jonathan P. Cabrera gave the ceremony’s closing remarks.
