Feds conduct inquiry into Japanese rock star’s death

“We are conducting our own inquiry,” Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Don Hall told Variety, adding it is standard operating procedure.

Hall said they will conduct interviews and receive the report of the CNMI Department of Corrections, Taijia Sawada, 45, tried to commit suicide while detained at Corrections.

Corrections has yet to issue a statement on the circumstances behind the incident.

Sawada was placed on life support on Thursday night but his family members decided to unhook it on Sunday.

Yesterday, visiting federal Judge William Hayes dismissed the case against Sawada as moved by Assistant U.S. Attorney James Benedetto.

Sawada was arrested for being unruly on a flight to Saipan from Japan, and was charged with interference with a flight attendant on the July 11 Delta 298 flight from Japan.

Sawada was in the business class cabin when the incident occurred, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.
