Rotary Club opens new playground in Laly 4

THE Rotary Club of Saipan held a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new playground at San Isidro Beach Park in the Laly 4 section of Chalan Kanoa on Thursday.

The playground features five slides, climbing equipment, a see-saw, and swings.

Rotary Club of Saipan President Joann T. Aquino said the project began under the guidance of Rotarian Tatiana Babauta when she served as the club’s director of community service. The project began during Greg Borja’s presidency in Rotary year 2018-2019.

Aquino said the project cost around $30,000 and was funded by ARPA funds under the Torres administration.

Aquino also said that Rotarian Billy Grow and his partners at Turnkey Solutions donated a solar camera system to monitor the playground. For their part, Precinct 2 Reps. Danny Aquino and John Paul Sablan have partnered to maintain the grounds, while the Department of Public Works donated solar lighting.

Joann T. Aquino said although the economy is facing “challenging times,” Rotary “remains steadfast in its mission to serve our youth and families.”

“As we cut the ribbon today, we’re not just opening a playground — we are opening a place where every child is welcome and included,” she said. “Let’s keep working together to create space that brings joy, connection, and belonging to our island community.”
