Dolde is expected to be released from the Department of Corrections facility on July 8, 2011.
Judge David A. Wiseman also placed Dolde on five years supervised probation upon release from prison.
Dolde will write a 45-word letter of apology to his victim, Carlos Vela, within 30 days. He will not to have any contact with his victim or the victim’s family through the probationary period, and will pay $556.69 restitution for medical bills.
Dolde will write a one-page letter explaining how his conviction affected his family.
The court also required Dolde to pay a $1,500 fine, a $100 court assessment fee, and a probation fee to be determined by the Adult Probation Office.
Assistant Attorney General Tiberius Mocanu prosecuted the case, while Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig served as Dolde’s counsel.
Vela sustained a severe cut to his left arm which he used to parry the machete swung by Dolde at his head, police said.
On Jan. 7, 2011, prior to the incident, Dolde and Vela were exchanging jokes at a Garapan barracks.
But Dolde, who was playing cards at the time, eventually became angry, police said.
He then got up from his seat, went to his room, and came out holding a machete.
Dolde walked toward Vela, who was drinking with a neighbor, and swung the machete at the victim’s head, police said.
Vela raised his left arm to block the machete, police added.
Neighbors helped stop the fight and called the police.
