Junior Tennis Championships start next week; entries due April 9

This year’s singles event includes boys and girls 18-and-under, 15U, 12U, and 10U divisions. In the doubles category are boys and girls 18U and 12U. The tournament, which starts on April 15, will also feature a mini-tennis event. Games will last up to April 24. Entry fees are $10 per player in the singles division and $10 per doubles team.

Participants are encouraged not to register at the last minute. Entries may be submitted via email to [email protected] or an event official. Headquarters for the championships will be located at American Memorial Park.

“This is the last event of the ranking year 2010-2011, and this tournament is worth one and a half times the number of points of the other events,” said Jeff Race in an email to Marianas Variety.

“Our national junior team to travel to Guam and compete in the North Pacific Qualifying event will be chosen immediately after. The Oceania Tennis Federation has invited three boys and three girls to compete in the 18U and four of each in the 15U and 12U events in the NPQ. More spaces could possibly be available if Guam does not fill their allocations. Financial assistance will be made available to those who qualify for the NPQ.”

Entry forms for the CNMI Junior Tennis Championships may be picked up at AMP or Pacific Islands Club. Players are limited to only one doubles and one singles event.

Daniel Park is again this year’s junior tournament director.
