“The Northern Marianas Athletics just recently completed the PSS/McDonald’s All Schools Athletics Championships earlier this month and would like to capitalize on that momentum by inviting you, your athletes, club and/or association to participate in our annual Marianas Athletics National Championship,” stated the official invitation to the event.
“NMA is taking the lead in expanding our development program and competition structure throughout the Micronesian and hopefully to the other Asian regions such as Japan and Korea,” it further stated.
“Even if Athletics events are not a part of your sport’s discipline, this looks like a great way to have fun, advance your sport’s goals, and help out another national federation,” said Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association’s President Michael White in a circulated email.
“I urge everyone to put together a team (even if it’s only a team of one) and participate in this event,” President White added.
When asked last night about how many people have already confirmed their participation in the event meet director Elias Rangamar replied, “So far three major clubs have confirmed their attendance along with two school clubs from Guam. We expect more to register tomorrow before the meet.”
“Once again we would like to encourage all sports federations, clubs and schools to participate in our annual Athletics championships this Friday and Saturday,” added Rangamar.
Participation fee is $1.00 for 18 and under competitors and $2.00 for adults. Proceeds will go toward fundraising efforts for the Pacific games in New Caledonia.
The two-day event will cover both the boys and girls’ U14 and U18 age divisions in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 3000m St. Chase, 100m hurdle, 110m hurdle, 400m hurdle, long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus throw, shotput throw, javelin throw, hammer throw, and 4x100m relay.
A medley relay, which consists of two males and two females, will be showcased on the last day of the meet. Ribbons will be awarded to the top three finishers in each event.
