The Brewers will also take the third seed in next week’s playoffs at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
Starting pitcher Vince Cepeda struck out nine in four innings and allowed one run on three hits before switching with Kelvin Kapileo. The Brewers’ offensive wouldn’t have been complete without Manny Sablan, who went 2-for-4 with two singles, one walk, and two runs.
An eight-run fourth inning finished the struggling D-9ers — just in time before rain poured in at the top of the sixth.
Mike Taitano and Byron Kaipat sparked the Brewers’ rally with two run-scoring singles. Left Fielder John Taitano and Asap Wabol posted one RBI single each.
John Acosta sent John Tenorio to home plate to score the D-9ers’ lone run.
Earlier this week, the St. Michaels’ Angels defeated the Shell Fielders to secure the pennant title.
Playoffs start Monday, May 30 between the top-seeded Angels and D-9ers. The Fielders will face the Brewers on Tuesday, May 31 and Thursday, June 2. The Angels will play the D-9ers again on Wednesday, June 1.
Games will be played in a best of three series. Winners will play in a best of five series for the championship.
