Fifty years and five children later, the Cepeda couple’s love for each other still stands strong and firm as witnessed by the community when they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home in As Matuis on April 9.
Mounted on the wall near a three-tiered golden wedding cake were Fe Cepeda’s original wedding gown and veil, photos of their wedding, their framed marriage certificate, and photos of their children.
In these modern times, when divorce seems to be the most easy way out of a stormy relationship, Frank Cepeda said holding on to a marriage is something that requires effort from both partners.
“One of our secrets of success is staying true and honest to each other through the years,” he said.
He described Fe as his best friend, confidante, partner, inspiration and strength.
Frank Cepeda recounted that if not for Joe Lifoifoi who lent him his Chevy back then, he would not have been able to take Fe out on dates.
For Mrs. Cepeda, keeping a marriage happy and alive for 50 years is no easy feat.
“I was just 18 years old when we got married. I started out on a blind journey, on a blind destination. I have to adjust most of the times, especially
when Frank was deployed in Vietnam. I had to be both father and mother and raise the kids alone,” Mrs. Cepeda said.
“There are plenty of dips along the way, but here we are, 50 years and we still love each other,” she added.
She said she also has the full support of her children namely Frank, Fred, Ferman, Darlene, and Cathy through all these years.
The golden anniversary was attended by family members, friends and relatives, island leaders, classmates and community members.
