Preparations begin for 2012 Economic Census

The last Economic Census was conducted in 2007. The Economic Census was used as a source for the Gross Domestic Product calculations and for measuring various employment statistics.

Last week, the Census Bureau sent branch chief Lee Wentela and project lead Geoffrey Hill to the CNMI to test forms and new questions for the 2012 Economic Census of Businesses. They hope to sit down with a few businesses and assess whether the questionnaire is easy to provide responses to.

According to Press Secretary Angel Demapan, “The survey will begin in September of 2012, but preparations have already been underway.”
