Police Officer Jason Tarkong, the NMI Crime Stoppers Program coordinator, said victim Hua Ming Zhang, 43, was delivering tofu around 12:45 p.m. at LF Market in Chalan Kanoa when the incident happened.
A 5’6” tall local male believed to be in his early 20s, medium built, dark haired and wearing a black tank top and shorts approached the victim and asked for his wallet.
When the victim refused, Tarkong said the man punched Hua Ming Zhang.
“The victim walked into the store and attempted to call the police on his cell phone. The suspect followed the victim into the store, grabbed the cell phone from the victim and broke it,” said Tarkong.
“The suspect attacked the victim with a knife stabbing him. During the struggle, one of the younger boys pulled the suspect away and all three males escaped fleeing north,” he added.
The victim sustained two deep lacerations on his left forearm requiring 31 stitches. He also lost his wallet containing $400 and his driver’s license.
Tarkong said anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 234-7272 or go to its website, www.nmicrimestoppers.com.
Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,000 for any information leading to an arrest.
