Man on trial for domestic violence arrested again for threatening wife

Wiseman also placed under advisement the three counts of disturbing the peace against Camacho.

Sentencing was scheduled for May 25, and the bench trial for two domestic charges against Camacho will proceed in the afternoon.

While jurors were deliberating on his case, Camacho changed his civilian clothes to standard orange jumpsuit, and appeared before Judge Kenneth L. Govendo regarding new  charges against him that involved his wife again.

Attorney Joaquin Torres, who is representing Camacho, said they were “happy with the verdict” and thanked the jurors for agreeing to their argument.

Torres said they respected the court’s decision to convict his client, noting that Wiseman found evidence against his client.

Torres said he will discuss with his client their post-trial action.

Assistant Attorneys General Russel Lorfing and Eileen Escudero Wisor prosecuted the case.

Lorfing said they were “disappointed” with the verdict, noting that phone calls and death threats were among the pieces of evidence presented by the prosecution.

“It is the government’s position that child abuse was committed,” Lorfing said.

He said they will pursue the maximum sentence for Camacho for the three charges of disturbing the peace.

Detective Peter Aldan said in his affidavit that Camacho threatened to kill his wife and children once he gets out of jail.

“This is the fourth time that [the victim] was given shelter because of this recurring domestic incident,” Aldan said after Camacho’s arrest last year.

For his bail hearing yesterday, Camacho is facing charges of disturbing the peace, obstructing justice, and two counts of violation of a court order, after he made contact with his wife.

Chief Prosecutor Michael Ernest asked the court to retain the $11,250 bail order of Judge Govendo.

The judge ordered Camacho to stay away from his wife.

The latest incident occurred on Monday when Camacho called his wife on her mobile phone.

Camacho’s call came from a store in Garapan, according to Detective Aldan.

At the time of the call, the wife and her three children were at the Attorney General’s Office in Susupe.

The wife said she was frightened by Camacho who raised his voice, Aldan said.

The wife went on to testify against her husband.

Detective Aldan said after Mrs. Camacho testified in court, she was transported to the women shelter for protection.

Camacho, who was out on property bond, was arrested by police after he stepped out of the courthouse on Monday afternoon.
