The weather was perfect as Brilliant Star School hosted the 4th Marianas Winds Kite Festival and Food Fair, its biggest annual fundraising event.
Those who went home with trophies, kites from Bali, Indonesia and gift certificates were Sebastian Bernardo and Wilson Zhao for having highest flying kites; Cid Mostales, the smallest kite; Gillian Villagomez for the largest kite; and Alan Carasco for the most eye-catching kite.
Lucky ticket holders won lots of prizes such as meal certificates and other items during the raffle draw.
“We are happy for the turnout because despite having had to postpone it last week due to the rainy weather, many still participated,” Brilliant Star School principal Richard Sikkel said.
The school sold all the 150 kites it bought from China, although less than 30 participants registered for the different contest categories.
Participants who joined the contest paid an entry fee of $5 which entitled them to join all the contest categories.
Sales at the different booths, which offered food, t-shirts, homemade jewelry, balloons and other items, were brisk, Sikkel said.
The event was held in cooperation with the Marianas Visitors Authority.
