Garapan school 4th graders top Breakfast Detectives competition

The certificate was given by Barny’s Pizza, GES and the School Nutrition Association in line with the school’s ongoing meal campaign, “Champions of Breakfast.”

Last month, Barny’s Pizza and SNA launched the “School Breakfast Detectives Search for Super Energy” at the school.

Prizes for the winners were provided by Micronesian Brokers Inc. and Yaong Corp.

Barny’s Pizza manager Ernel Rubio said this year’s campaign focuses on the importance of nutritious school breakfasts for the academic achievements of students and their behavioral stability.

GES vice principal Paulette Sablan said the students were very excited with the program, thanks to the effort of Barny’s Pizza and its industry partners.

Sablan said the program aims to improve the  students’ participation in the most important meal of the day, which is breakfast.

The School Breakfast Detectives program started on March 7 and will continue until May 27.

Rubio said the students can join in fun-filled activities such as the Book Cover Design Contest, the Best Detective Look of the Month, puzzles and other activities.

Rubio said  GES is their pilot school for the breakfast campaign program but they are also looking forward to extending services to other schools in the future.

Barny’s Pizza, through the Public School System-Food and Nutrition Service’s breakfast program, hopes to offer students healthy food they need to keep on track during their busy school day.

Barny’s Pizza serves about 800 breakfasts from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. every day at GES. The students pay 50 cents but it is free for eligible children.

The School Nutrition Association, of which Barny’s is a member, created the School Breakfast Detectives program with the cooperation of the GES Parent Teacher Association.
