“I’m very appreciative. All that I do is for NMC. My heart is always with NMC,” Cabrera said after she received the award.
NMC accreditation liaison officer Galvin Deleon Guerrero said Cabrera has been with NMC in different capacities since the 1980s, as a student, teacher and leader.
“When the 2011…recognitions committee convened for this year’s awardees, it realized that an award category did not exist for someone who clearly deserves to be recognized. So, the committee decided to grant a special recognition award to this individual,” he said, referring to Cabrera.
Guerrero said “in the middle of turbulent waters marked by leadership turnovers, accreditation challenges, and financial difficulties, Cabrera has brought stability to the college and kept NMC afloat and sailing forward.”
He added, “It is no understatement to say that NMC would not be where it is today without her leadership.”
During NMC’s 30th Charter Day celebration on Friday, six other individuals were also recognized:
• Glenn Samuel Songcuan, 2011 Student of the Year
• Vicente “Ben” Babauta, the current DFS Galleria assistant general manager, 2011 NMC Alumni of the Year
• Lisa Hacskaylo, NMC-Office of Institutional Effectiveness researcher, 2011 Staff of the Year
• NMC human resources manager John Manalo, 2011 Supervisor of the Year
• NMC acting director of information technology Eric Abragan, 2011 Non-Instructional Faculty of the Year
• School of Education instructor John Jenkins, 2011 NMC Instructional Faculty of the Year.
Each awardee received $200, a plaque and a one-year parking spot on campus.
