Leading the class A men’s division are Ferdie Arago and Gerry Hibi, who reached the playoffs with a perfect seven-win record. Both will play Taga Badminton Club’s Andrew Galvez and Edwin Montoya and Saipan Badminton Club’s Dick Guintu and Mario Diola in Saturday’s semis games.
Four pairs — Marlene Peraja and Lani Bartolome, Angie Ito and Gigi Zapanta, Annarose Omori and Michelle Caleon, and Choi Hannah and Toshiko Obata — will duel it out in the class A women’s division.
Hannah will join Guintu in the class A mixed semifinals. Peraja and Ito, both paired with Saul Gargallo and Andrew Galvez, respectively, are also in the class A mixed semis along with United Knights Badminton Club’s Hapi Gabriel and Malou Malasarte.
In the class B men’s quarterfinals, Diola and teammate Nario Atchas bagged a 21-16, 21-16 victory over Wowie Abuel and Jojo Lazaro. Oh Imbog and Gary Bondoja downed Lito Mendoza and Alvin Alvarez, 21-12, 21-19 to advance last Wednesday.
Diola, Atchas, Imbog, and Bondoja – all from Saipan BC – will take on Sam Jones and Glenn Buultjens and Berks Blazers Badminton Club’s John Revilla and Gargallo.
So Young Lee and Heo In Souk are set to face Zapanta and Cristy Villaflor in the class B women’s finals.
Current semifinalists in the class C mixed division are: Oh An Yeol and Hwang Meong (Saipan BC), Luis Camacho and Elna Curate (Taga BC), Lee Choon Hee and Kimbo Ranah (Saipan BC), and Rick Brien and Jen Savellano (Golden Racquet).
Playoffs will continue tonight from 6 to 10:40 p.m. Championship games in the class B and C mixed, class B men’s, and class A men’s and women’s divisions are set for Sunday, April 10.
