Tinian Health Center problems worsening

Weiss his filed a complaint to collect the $40,000 owed to him.

The resident, who declined to  be identified, said the problem at THC has worsened.

“The Department of Public Health should look seriously into the problem of the center,” he said.

Weiss, in a separate interview, said there was a lack of medical supplies at the center.

On Nov. 26, 2010 a memorandum of understanding was signed between Weiss and THC resident director Raymond T. Dela Cruz Jr.

Tinian Mayor Ramon M. Dela Cruz, the father of the THC resident director, also signed the MOU.

Weiss agreed to provide physician coverage for THC at a daily rate of $500 for first eight hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and $50 per hour on services rendered after regular hours, with transportation and hotel accommodations.

However, the THC resident director terminated the MOU on April 15, 2011, citing budgetary shortfall as the reason.

Dela Cruz Jr., in his letter, said they would discontinue the services of Weiss “until payment for your service is fully satisfied or when the processing of your proposed employment contract is completed.”

Sometime in February or March, Weiss  posted a notice addressed to the patients and staff of THC: “Because Freddy [referring to THC administrator Freddy Hofschneider] and the director of THC are incapable of getting me a signed contract in over four months’ time, and because they are too incompetent to secure funds to pay me for the last three months, I will see only emergency patients.”

His notice added, “I have spent (donated) over $500 of my own money for the benefit of the hospital. I work nearly daily giving service to the kind people of Tinian; however, I have not been paid my wages, nor have I been reimbursed for things that the director has agreed to pay. I can no longer work in this intolerable situation.”

An email provided to Variety disclosed the inability of the administrators at THC to maintain its facilities and personnel to the required U.S. standards.

The Tinian municipal government did not reply to this reporter’s request for comment.
