Team Pirates ignited their winning rally after team players Bert Rekugio and James Reyes each finished their rack of eight balls in both games one and two against the Turtles’ Leonard Sablan and Nizer Masayos.
The Turtles fought back in the third and fourth set. The competition was fierce as both games one and two during the third and fourth set were thrown into sudden death.
Rodney Aldan and Ken Phillip bagged two points off the table after sinking the black eight ball in before Frank Palacios and Jack Cepeda. Rick Rengiil secured the lead for team Turtles after defeating Jack Cepeda during the first and second game without a need to enter third round.
In the 8-ball doubles’ category, Masayos and partner Rengiil dominated the first and second racks by pocketing the 8-ball while their foes Bert Rekugio and Mary Herrera were still three balls behind.
Joey Agulto and Frank Palacios redeemed the Pirates during the final doubles category crushing Rodney Aldan and partner Ken Phillip by two balls during the first game and one ball in the second game. The Pirates were still a point short from notching the win from the Turtles, 4-3.
The USSP Turtles are now ahead of team Pirates in the Obyan division. The former is pulling in 15 wins and 27 losses while the latter has notched 12 wins and 30 losses.
Voyagers 4, Best Choice 3
Meanwhile Jojo Talibong, Rolly Villanueva, and Rey Pinagnay gave the edge team IT&E Voyagers needed to remain on top of the Agigan Division after cuing the 8 ball in faster than D’Pirates’ Ronnie Abergas, Ray Takai, and Ed Suzuki in the opening categories of the 8-ball singles at the Jonny’s Bar and Grill.
Abergas and Takai, were each two balls on the table shy of defeating Talibong and Villanueave both in games one and two. Suzuki faltered in game one against Pinagnay by three balls but redeemed himself during game two only to fall away during game three or sudden death.
Randy Sablan and Tero Takai then finished all of their balls before Luis Farjardo and RJ Mascarinas even had time to finish their last two. Sablan and Takai quickly sailed through game two to clinch two points in no need to throw the competition into game three.
In the 8-ball doubles category Tero Takai and Randy Sablan brought unimaginable billiards skill on the table after leaving Jojo Talibong and Roman Rodriquez with more than half their rack on the table in both games one and two.
It all came down to the last 8-ball doubles round. The Voyagers then pulled a come from behind win after Rey Pinangay and Rolly Villanueava sunk the 8-ball in, two balls ahead of Ray Takai and Ed Suzuki clinching the win by one points, 4-3.
