5th BRM Car Rally to roll on June 18

This year’s car rally guarantees the longest and most intricate course yet in the four-year history of the only driving and navigation competition of its kind in the Northern Marianas.

“Every car rally we’ve done is full of excitement and surprises, but I must say that this year’s course is particularly challenging. So drivers and navigators out there — expect the unexpected,” says Car Rally master and BRM account manager, Susan Marchitti.

The 5th BRM Car Rally is distinctive from all the previous rallies, as this is the first time that a major car dealer will participate. Triple J Motors is not only a major sponsor; it will also enter several teams to pit driving and navigational skills with other competitors. The car dealer will give two free shirts to every team that drives a car bought from Triple J Motors.

When Beach Road Magazine launched the first car rally in 2007, organizers aimed to offer Saipan a fresh form of entertainment that would bring families, friends and companies together in a friendly competition.

A timed and predetermined course combined with aspects of a scavenger hunt, general knowledge and trivia, no car rally will be complete without questions and pitfalls designed to throw the unwary off course.

The car rally presents the entire community a unique experience to see the many facets of the island with a new perspective. Details that ordinarily go unnoticed in the course of daily driving will come into sharp focus.

The car rally is open to drivers 16 years and older. Families, companies, friends, and tourists are invited to participate. Each car is required to have at least one driver and as many navigators as the legal capacity of the vehicle will allow to complete the course.

BRM Car Rally is a competitive motoring event patterned after car rallies in the United States and Europe. Drivers are tasked to complete a course by following instructions that test the team’s attention to detail and navigational skills. The starting point will be disclosed to participants when they sign up, and a new set of instructions will be given at every checkpoint. Following the instructions to a tee at every checkpoint is crucial as it can make or break a team’s chances of accumulating points to win the car rally.

Registration is $15, and space is limited to 60 cars. Grab a copy of Beach Road Magazine for the entry forms, fill them out and submit to the Glimpses of Saipan office on the second floor of the Transpac Business Center along Chalan Pale Arnold Rd., Gualo Rai (near Subway Restaurant) during regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Everyone will receive a prize just for making it through the course.

So, gear up and get ready for the most challenging car event of the year.
