Administration waives austerity Fridays for homebound seniors

On April 22, the center started delivering meals, medications and other services to the homebound, she said.

They have about 150 homebound senior citizens, including those with family caregivers on Saipan; at least 42 on Rota; and 33 on Tinian.

She said the administration “waived” the austerity measure that has been imposed since last year on various government agencies, including the Aging Center.

Mondala said they had asked the administration to exempt the manamko’ from austerity Fridays in May which is Older Americans Month.

Teresita Sorroza, Senior Citizens Advisory Council president, said they are hoping that the administration will also allow the congregates to come to the center during austerity Fridays.

“What I heard is that they will give us two Fridays this May because we are celebrating the Older Americans Month,” she said.

Sorroza said they still have to wait for the official announcement about the lifting of the austerity measure.
