The 177-page report was unanimously endorsed by the NMC board of regents during its special session yesterday.
NMC said the report contained evidence that demonstrates the college’s compliance with accreditation standards, eligibility requirements and commission recommendations.
“I commend the staff, faculty and students of NMC for all their hard work in completing the report,” NMC interim President Lorraine Cabrera said in a statement to Variety.
WASC-ACCJC required NMC to submit the show-cause report by March 15.
The report must explain why NMC’s accreditation should not be withdrawn and how it is complying with all the eligibility requirements and standards.
The regents, however, has yet to name a new president, one of the requirements set by WASC-ACCJC.
On Friday, Board Chairman Juan T. Lizama said they had to wait for the background reports regarding the three final candidates from the Association of Community College Trustees.
In an interview yesterday, Regent Andrew Orsini, the presidential search committee chairman, said even if they already had the background reports, they still had to conduct a criminal and financial investigation for the final candidate.
Orsini said NMC’s show-cause report was electronically transmitted yesterday.
NMC will also send a hard copy of the report by mail, he added.
The drafting of the report involved the entire NMC community.
As part of the college’s effort to keep its stakeholders involved in the preparation of the report, it held an accreditation workshop where faculty, staff and students participated in reviewing and providing input on key sections of the report. Faculty, staff and students also served on the various standard teams, NMC said.
