“I’m excited,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
Acting Commerce Secretary Sixto Igisomar, in a separate interview, said everybody knows who Yumul is.
Having run big businesses on island, he is very familiar with how to start an enterprise and understands the challenges it faces, Igisomar said.
He said they are finalizing the contract of Yumul who will receive about $40,000 annually. The contract requires legislative authorization.
Commerce, Igisomar said, needs to expedite the development of the SBDC office and they need somebody like Yumul, who is also a member of the Saipan municipal council.
The program, Igisomar said, is not federally funded but is supported by partners on Guam, the Commonwealth Development Authority and local funds.
The key players in any business development, Igisomar explained, are small businesses.
“So we need to help them out; we need to assist them. We talk about business management, business planning and counseling and any form of resources,” He said.
Casey Jeszenka, network director of SBDC on Guam, said they are “excited” to have Yumul on board.
He said Yumul whom he interviewed over the phone was highly recommended by Igisomar.
