The Board of Parole has announced that it will be conducting a parole hearing on the applications of Sanito Estrera, Bonifacio M. Camacho, Jing Ming Nan, Shawn C. Appleby, Sayuri Aldan Paulis, Jesus Mafnas Babauta, and Loreto H. Rodriguez next week at the Department of Corrections facility.
Sexual abuse
Estrera, 65, was convicted of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree. He was sentenced on March 26, 2009 to 10 years imprisonment, all suspended except for six years. He has been an inmate since June 18, 2008.
In sentencing Estrera, Judge Kenneth L. Govendo said: “The court is extremely disturbed both by [Estrera’s] despicable acts and his complete lack of remorse. The vileness of this crime is compounded by the fact that [Estrera] had wormed his way into the family structure, gaining their trust and even being referred to as ‘grandfather’ by the [then-five-year-old] victim.”
Rodriguez, 33, pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree last year.
He was sentenced to five years imprisonment, all suspended except for two years with credit for 27 days already served at the Corrections facility.
He is expected to be released from prison on Feb. 17, 2012.
Rodriguez was then 29, while his victim was then 14.
Robbery-murder
Appleby was found guilty of committing robbery-murder in 1997.
The court sentenced Appleby, then 16, to 40 years imprisonment, with a minimum of 10 years to be served. The agreement contained no specific provision for parole, according to court documents.
The Board of Parole earlier denied Appleby’s application on Aug. 23, 2006 on the basis that he was not yet eligible for parole.
Three months later, Appleby escaped from prison and was subsequently arrested. He was sentenced to an additional year of incarceration for escape.
Appleby, with four other juveniles, killed a businessman who owned the store they robbed on Nov. 13, 1996.
Vehicular homicide
On May 25, 2010, the Superior Court sentenced Paulis to three years imprisonment, all suspended except for 545 days with credit for six days already served at Corrections after he admitted hitting a man with her vehicle on the street. She started serving her term on Aug. 1, 2010.
Marriage fraud
Camacho was sentenced to three years after he admitted committing marriage fraud in 2009. He is expected to be released on June 3, 2012
Assault with a dangerous weapon
Ming Nan Jin, 39, received the maximum sentence of 10 years after he stabbed a businessman in March 2007.
Forgery
Babauta, 33, was sentenced to five years imprisonment, all suspended except for eight months with credit for time served.
He pleaded guilty to forgery, and theft by unlawful taking.
The court said Babauta’s first six months would be served concurrently with his six months jail term in federal prison.
The remaining two months would be served at the CNMI Corrections facility.
Babauta was release from federal prison on Jan. 20, 2011.
