Ronald Harebottle, a tourist from the states who brought his family to Mt. Tapotchao last Saturday, said his wife did not dare approach the restroom.
The trail going to the restroom is no longer visible due to the grass surrounding it.
Only the upper part of the restroom can be seen from the distance.
Hanna Reyes, one of the local residents who visit Saipan’s highest point every weekend, said she never uses the restroom.
Aside from the tall grass that surrounds it, Reyes said she does not want to be “surprised” by what’s inside the restroom.
Tony A. Castro, who works at a nearby communications tower, said most tourists, especially the females, usually ask if they could use the facility’s restroom.
But he said their work place is restricted and they can’t allow anyone in.
The tourists, even the females, usually end up urinating behind the facility’s concrete fence.
Some try to “hold it” until they go down the mountain.
Castro said on Friday, a couple of tourists wanted to use the public restroom but were “horrified” to see the tall grass surrounding it.
