Over the last month, MTEC officials and representatives of the Marianas Visitors Authority have visited Marianas High, Saipan Southern High, and Kagman High to speak with student council organizations and other student groups about the importance of tourism and ways students can support the industry.
“The future of the Northern Marianas is dependent on both tourism and our youth. It’s a given that students should have the opportunity to learn about the industry,” said MTEC Chairman Vicky Benavente. “We’re grateful for the warm reception we’ve received from both students and staff.”
MTEC’s presentations include a summary of visitor arrivals, source markets, and the economic impact of tourism. MTEC is also offering high schools a financial incentive to start a MY WAVE, or Welcome All Visitors Enthusiastically, Club and become actively involved in tourism-related activities, such as airport greetings and island cleanups.
MTEC is a nonprofit organization promoting community awareness on the importance of the visitor industry in the Northern Marianas.
