Faisao leads Ayuyus for season-ending win

The Ayuyus left no room for errors and outgunned Marianas High School 85-66 at the MHS Gymnasium. Faisao led KHS from start to finish, scoring 21 of his 31 points in the first half. The Ayuyus led 10-4 halfway into the first quarter and 45-28 in the second.

While Faisao drove forward, Sovali Talalemotu waited for the rebound. Talalemotu bagged four points before pulling away with 12 more in the third quarter. The Kagman giant had no trouble getting past the Dolphins’ defense.

Kagman High’s team captain Juan Maratita posted six points. Talalemotu scored 18, Kroy Ogo made seven, and Sahj Hossain garnered 10.

MHS’ Brandon Aulerio earned four points in the final quarter while Ryan Ichihara and Ezra Caro scored none. It was all up to Greg Duatin, Erick Dela Rosa, and John Darag. With four minutes to go, the Dolphins recovered 18 of their 37-point deficit. The damage was done however, and Kagman High needed only to stall time.

Steals from Faisao gave the Ayuyus the edge, in addition to Marianas High’s countless misses. KHS advanced 52 points in the second and third quarter. The frustrated Dolphins made only 19 compared to Kagman’s big boost. KHS earned 13 more points from Jason Palacios, Frank Mettao, Michael Manglona, and Mart Sablan.

On the Dolphins’ side, Aulerio and Darag top scored with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Manalili garnered nine, and Duatin earned six.

Losing to the Ayuyus wasn’t new to MHS. In Jan. 19, Kagman High broke the Dolphins’ winning streak with a 93-76 victory. MHS’ varsity squad holds six regular season wins and two losses.

Prior to their loss, the Dolphins trumped KHS 32-14 in a junior varsity game last Friday.
