With a snap of a finger, Leon Guerrero said, Marlon Martin, another defendant now serving seven years for armed robbery, decided to break into the pawnshop at noon time on Oct. 23, 2009.
Leon Guerrero said two police officers, Norris Kwon and Joseph Magofna, positively identified Quitano, then wearing a mask, from the surveillance video footage.
Responding to defense attorney Stephen Woodruff’s question, Leon Guerrero said the police officers, who formerly worked at the Department of Corrections, identified Quitano based on his body movements.
The officers knew Quitano who also served time at the Corrections facility, Leon Guerrero.
He said there was no “promise” offered to the fourth defendant, who was also arrested days after the robbery, and later became a cooperating source for the government.
The group, Leon Guerrero said, picked up the cooperating source at Upper Miha, then went to As Lito, where the driver of the getaway vehicle was also picked up.
From there, Leon Guerrero said the group stayed on the beachside where Martin suggested to rob 24 Hours Pawnshop.
Quitano has denied the charges of two counts of aggravated assault and battery, two counts of assault and battery, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, armed robbery, theft, contempt, two counts of attempted first degree murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and burglary.
Leon Guerrero said approximately $6,000 were reported stolen from the pawnshop, of which $853 was recovered.
Two persons were seriously hurt in the incident.
Judge David A. Wiseman is presiding over the jury trial.
Assistant Attorneys General Russel Lorfing and Tiberius Mocanu are prosecuting the case.
