Matagolai bags MVP Award

Matagolai was the Team Captain for the Rollers, the youngest player on the MVP’s nominee listing, and led the way for overall scoring during the regular season after nailing a grand total of 210 points.

“It was an easy pick for the committees since most of the coaches picked him as the number one nominee,” said UBA President James Lee.

Matagolai topped older and much more experienced competitors such as Mobil’s Jhun Estolas who collared 124 points, Konflikt’s Elmer Esdrelon (122 pts.), Satbahi’s Luis Abuel (112 pts.), and the Hoopaholics’ Jawn Joyner (105 pts.).

The young Roller received Docomo/UBA’s nod after most of the coaches voted for Matagolai to win the coveted award.

The nominees were selected based on the statistics and how each player performed during the entire regular season of the league and topping the voting ballots turned in by all coaches from the participating teams.

Winning the award was not based solely on how much a player scored during the season, or even as the leading scorer in their team but instead, as a whole, which meant, free throws,  two pointer shots, three pointer shots, offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds, steals, assists, and blocks.

The final decision was agreed upon by the committees of the Docomo/UBA league after they were able to come up with the top three nominees.

The other nominees in the league were Jhun Estolas the team captain for Mobil who was leading in free throws. Elmer Esdrelon the team captain for the IP&E Konflikt who led in the steals category.

Luis Abuel the team captain for Satbahi who led in the assist category and finally, the Hoopaholics’ Jawn Jowner who led in the overall rebounds and block shots categories.
