Farrell, a former BOE chairman and a retired educator, said “History of the Mariana Islands to Partition” is the second textbook he wrote on the history of the islands. His first publication came out in 1991, “The History of the Northern Mariana Islands.”
PSS federal programs officer Tim Thornburgh said the book was funded by a special grant from the U.S. Department of Education and was utilized once the project was approved by the Board of Education.
5,200 copies of “The History of the Mariana Islands to Partition” were printed at the cost of $50,000, Thornburgh said.
Commissioner Sablan said she is excited for the children who will be holding the books in their hands very shortly.
Farrell, PSS officials, and school principals will be gathering at the Aqua Resort Club today at 9 a.m. for the official book launching.
